Spoon people

I hope you all are well. :)

I am feeling very tired last few days.

I am sure it is the heat waves we had for 3days which went up to 42c (107.6F) where I lost appetite. Now, cooled down and rain rain rain...

These new spoon people make me laugh! :D

I thought I'd like to share the photos here :)

Quiet and peaceful but very stubborn little ladies - you can see that in their faces..?

My dear daughter having her breakfast using a spoon I made for her on our front porch.
We both spend alot of time on and around the small front porch. Not only because it is coolest spot with breezes but also it feels little bit like a cubby house there :)

On the right hand side is a lovely bowl by lauriegceramics. Highly recommended lovely shop :)

Last bells this year

I am putting 7 bell persons in my Etsy shop soon today.
These are the last ones this year. I hope they will find a good home :)

What a year it has been! I am so grateful of how things went around me.
Thank you so much for your support and encouraging words here. I am so happy to have met you, all of you!

My first porcelain bell was born in February this year. Since then about 150 unique bell persons were born one by one in my hands with their own little story and personality. Amazingly they now live in all corners of the world..
Russia, Canada, France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, UK, USA, Hawaii, Japan and within Australia...

I think I'd like to take a few weeks off work now and enjoy going through the photos of the bell persons who have left home. I hope they are happy so are the new owners. :)

'Becoming' of small people

I may bore some of you who have seen this photo album in my Facebook pages - but I really like sharing the process of making / becoming :) So here they are again.

This is work in progress of small people.

I received a custom order to make one so I started making four so she could choose her favourite one out of four. The rest will go to my Etsy shop this week.

Little heads are made.

Neck, shoulders being made, while making sure the heads can turn...

Making body shape with soft thin sheet of clay is so tricky...!
It has to be soft enough that I can fold, push in to form, dry enough to hold the shape...

By this stage I lost one :(

Painting their hair and faces on our verandah while my daughter watches..

They are already very individual loveable small people :)

Nice to have arms and legs to stretch...!

Going to a kiln. I hope they survive in the firing...

I will miss them when they go. Then I'd have to make some more. :)

Spoons

My daughter(4) loves my spoons. So she says.

I have to go look in her small wooden kitchen cabinet when some are missing.

And there they normally are kept.

This is her very treasured kitchen that she keeps updating and renovating.

It is so soothing and lovely hand forming each spoons early in the morning

(when my daughter is asleep)

And seeing organic unique shapes being made.

I can never replace this process with mold casting technique to have them all perfect. No no..

And painting them with lots of love! is another pleasure.....

Lazy day after The Finders Keepers

I had a wonderful time at The Finders Keepers Brisbane last week end :)
it is just so special to meet people who find something in my work face to face.
I cannot explain how special and encouraging that is.
A lovely spot by the window.

Spoons were gone by the noon on the first day!

Very tired and I thought my girl would be so tired too. She did very well at the markets! No Kindy today :) Both of us staying at home.

Ww went to a lovely coffee shop in my street for late breakfast. Babycino, banana bread, had a chat with a coffee lady who will now visit us with her girl tomorrow. Lovely getting to know neighbours since we are new in the area.

Plates, plates and plates...!!

I am uploading photos of my newly fired dessert plates in my Etsy shop now.

All unique, handmade and hand painted plates.
17cm across. A good size for a cake and fresh cream on the side :)
Very different from my other work, these are glazed with a glossy clear glaze.
I am very happy with them :)

Moving house :)

Hello everyone :) I have not been very active in the blogsphere, Facebook and even in my Etsy shop last few weeks.
I have been so busy being involved in running art classes at a kindy. This is part of what we did. tying twigs, leaves with various strings. We were hoping they'd start making sculptures by adding more and more layers of strings to create thickness but it did not get to that stage. But that's fine! :) Children claimed their creations as "guitar!" "fairy's swing!" "broom!" baby doll" etc. etc...and spontaneously started drama plays using the entire space outside.
Children's animated facial expressions are priceless! I love it when the art-making is open ended. I and the other art teacher/wonderful wonderful ceramic artist Kenji Uranishi, we both learnt so much from this experience and the children :) It was challenging and loads of fun!
I also learnt alot from working with Kenji. Please visit his blog to see his delicate and beautiful work. :)

Now that busy week is over and I have a week to pack and move the house. Yes it is crazy...!
Moving from a small apartment into a house with lots of spaces inside and outside is so exciting for me and my little girl. Working with clay, paper, textiles... my work does require more space than I have now. My girl will have her own room which is wonderful for her (and I hope most of her toys will now stay in the room..!!)

I am dreaming about what we can do in the big back yard. a cubbie house for my girl and her friends, cute handmade bunting that I will make, lanterns for coming Summer nights, serious veggie gardens, egg-laying chickens, after school art classes for children, even workshops with grown ups? Ahhh... :)

But before any of that, I need to pack everything in boxes and clean this apartment spotless to have the bond back... Ahhh.... :(
